This anthology for upper high school students follows on from the success of the collection Things a Map Won't Show You, which was aimed at younger readers. Susan La Marca and Pam Macintyre have gathered an exciting mix of original and pre-published works that cover themes of Indigenous issues, friendship, migrants in Australia, environmental impact, dystopia, sci-fi adventure and death.
The anthology includes original stories from: Davina Bell, Meg Caddy, Shivaun Plozza, Peta Freestone, Scot Gardner, Barry Jonsberg, Meg McKinlay (with illustration by Kyle Hughes-Odgers), Gayle Kennedy, Shaun Tan, Felicity Castagna, Amie Kaufman and Leanne Hall. Dr. Susan La Marca is a consultant in the areas of children's and young adult literature and school libraries and currently Head of Library and Information Services at Genazzano FCJ College in Melbourne. Susan is the editor of Synergy, the research journal of the School Library Association of Victoria and associate editor of the journal Viewpoint and was the CBCA Victorian judge in 2006-2007. Susan is also an adjunct lecturer in the School of Information Studies at Charles Sturt University. Susan has edited Back to Books: Creating a Focus on Fiction, Books up Front: Investing in the Value of Reading, Effective Learning Spaces: Inspiration for School Library Design (and Rethink: Ideas for Inspiring School Library Design, and is co-author of Knowing Readers: Unlocking the Pleasures of Reading and author of Designing the Learning Environment.
Dr Pam Macintyre teaches language and literacy and children's and young adult literature at The University of Melbourne. She is the editor of the quarterly review journal Viewpoint. She has been a judge for the Victorian Premier's Literary Awards, Aurealis Awards and CBCA Book of the Year Awards, and is co-author of Knowing Readers: Unlocking the Pleasures of Reading.
